Sanctuary Docu-series

For many of us, there will come a time when we consider a care home for ourselves or our loved ones. At Sanctuary Care, we know how difficult it can be to plan for care needs in later life and understand that moving yourself or a loved one into a care home can feel overwhelming and emotional.

There are so many factors to consider, ranging from financial and emotional support to what really matters to us, but having these conversations early and considering all options available can help to enable a smoother transition into needing more care.

With over 25 years’ experience delivering dementia, residential, palliative and respite care, we know that our care homes are caring, safe and empowering communities, which enrich the lives of our residents and provide their families with much-needed peace of mind.

However, as part of our Enriching Lives programme, we wanted to understand the honest opinions on care homes from the perspective of those who might require care in the coming years, so that we can continue to support even more families before moving into our homes – enriching lives from the very beginning.

We commissioned a study of 1,300 people aged 60 and over, which revealed how our priorities change as we get older, with independence considered the most important factor for fulfilment in later life.

Results of the study also showed that less than a third of people over 60 have a clear plan in place for later life care, whilst over six in ten worry their quality of life would diminish living in a care home.

But we know the reality of life in our care homes can be fun, enriching and a lifeline to many. More than this, our teams look beyond physical and emotional care needs to deliver truly person-centred care to each and every individual who lives with us, ensuring they feel happy and fulfilled.

To show what life in Sanctuary Care homes is really like, we have produced a documentary series which tells the stories of real people living in our care homes, giving residents, their loved ones and our team the opportunity to share their honest experiences.
